Fresh blueberries really stick to a non-stick waffle iron – that’s what I discovered this week. I don’t use my wafffle iron that much, but since I’m developing some recipes for a magazine story, I have to deal with a big sink full of dishes and a crusty, stuck-on, burned-berry mess to clean up before the end of the day.
So here’s my tip on how to clean a stubborn, stuck on stain off the inside of a waffle iron:
- Let the iron cool first.
- Take a soft cloth, microfiber or terry cloth and run it under hot water. Squeeze it out well.
- Unplug the waffle iron and arrange the cloth on the inside of the iron. Close the lid and set aside or 10 minutes or so.
- Open the lid and wipe the soften crust with the cloth or dry paper towel.
I just had the same experience! Very disappointing as I could hardly wait for those yummy smelling waffles! My sainted husband cleaned up the mess, but when I tried to make waffles this morning, my regular batter stuck, too. I’ve had this non-stick waffle maker for almost 25 years and have never had a problem before. Will try your method and hope for the best!
