Link Between Exercise and Happiness

How to start over with a healthier dietInclude exercise at least three time a week” is advice we have all heard constantly from health care and wellness experts. We know exercise is good for the heart, great for your figure, and might even help you to score the date of your dreams, but can exercise make you a happier person?

According to some psychologists, the answer is a resounding yes. My dear friend Anna recommended the Big Think website.

One of their experts, Tal Ben-Shahar, Psychology Lecturer from Harvard University, shares wonderful strategies in his “five ways to become happier today”.

One of the things he said really resonated with me. “Physical exercise contributes a great deal to happiness. Research shows that aerobic exercise, three times a week 30 to 40 minutes sessions are equivalent to powerful psychiatric drugs.”

So there’s even more reason to get out your yoga mat, go to the dance studio, or head to the gym.

This doesn’t surprise me at all. My personal training clients have told me in the past that after they started exercising, they become a little more aloof and not so serious. I think it is due to a multitude of reasons such as increased endorphins, better body image, better sleep, etc.
