Mediterranean Diet Avoids Diabetes?

Can a Mediterranean diet rich in olive oil, plant based foods (fruits, vegetables, and legumes), and fibre but low in meats reduce the occurrence of type 2 diabetes among initially healthy participants? A new study says so.

  1. It’s a well designed study, as far as observational studies go. Thanks for bringing it to your readers’ attention.

Another study shows the Mediterranean diet preventing diabetes – type 2 – in patients who have had a heart attack and then started the new diet. I blogged about it here:

The other benefits of the Mediterranean diet include life prolongation, reduced cardiovascular disease, prevention of dementia and Parkinsons disease, reduced rates of cancer (breast, colon, uterus, prostate), and improvement in rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Pretty incredible, huh? No other way of eating can legitimately make all these claims.
