3 Ways to Feel More Confident and Look Better

When I was in my teens, I was one shy kid.

As I grew older, I made it a point of taking better care of myself, and have since maintained a 30-pound weight loss. My self-confidence grew while my social life blossomed, but having confidence and feeling good in your skin isn’t necessarily just about your weight.

There are many other simple ways to give yourself TLC that could make all the difference in your confidence level and how you interact with others.

Here are three simple tips that can have a huge impact on how you feel day to day.

Eat Better

The key to feeling better, maintaining a healthy weight, and having gorgeous skin is eating well. Start by loading up on fresh vegetables especially the vital green superfoods, broccoli, kale, collards, and spinach. They contain loads of essential nutrients to boost brain function, improve mood, and give your skin a wide array of anti-oxidants for radiant skin. Looking for a hard and fast rule on how to construct your dinner plate? Fill your plate with green, red, orange, and purple veggies first, then top with a slice of cheese, 4 ounces of lean meat, or a handful of toasted nuts. Or supercharge the process and pair healthy eating with supplements for faster weight loss and more energy, check out the plan on Total Shape.

Take a Yoga or Dance Class to Improve Posture

Feeling like you’re in a slump? Nothing says confidence like straight good posture, shapely shoulders, and firm arms. Sounds like a lot of work but it’s not hard to get! Poor posture happens along the spine as people slump in the upper, mid and lower back — from sitting or standing for long periods of time. Before I changed careers to become a chef, I worked a 9-to-5 office job and my posture suffered from sitting at a keyboard all day. Once I took up regular yoga, 2 to 3 classes weekly, I saw a total transformation of my posture and got rid of the back pain and carpal tunnel for good! Both yoga and dance can help train your posture while burning calories, and there are even little exercises you can do at home to help encourage good postures. Regular yoga and even dance naturally tone arms, back, and upper body, and when my schedule doesn’t allow an hour yoga class, I workout in my living room.

Sleep Tight

Getting enough sleep can not only help you to eat less and feel more relaxed, but it is also important for clear thinking and maintaining a positive outlook on life. Experts say that not getting enough sleep can be a hit to your memory and it’s hard to feel confident when you feel fatigued. Getting enough sleep is also an easy way to get clearer skin. When you don’t get enough sleep the body produces excess cortisol, a stress hormone that breaks down skin cells and can also cause fat storage around the midsection. So get your “zzzz” and lower your cortisol to look and feel your best!
