Cherry Peppers Stuffed with Mozzarella and Basil
I love the sweet and hot flavor of pickled cherry peppers, ideal for preparing quick and tasty appetizers. You can find them in the deli case of most grocery stores or in a specialty Italian deli. They are great to have on hand to enliven salads, sliced into steamed broccoli and cauliflower or to tuck into a hearty sandwich.
Spiced Hot Cocoa
This low-fat version of hot cocoa has a Mexican twist! I add lots of spices and a hint of chili pepper to give it that extra warm flavor.
Cardamom Ice Cream
I created this recipe for my friend Lorna Sass, award-winning cookbook author and serious jazz enthusiast. Since she is such of fan of cardamom, I wanted to offer her a special treat when I invited her over for dinner one night. In this recipe, the cardamom is mellowed by the addition of the bittersweet chocolate chips.
Pear Hazelnut Muffin
Pears are plentiful in the fall. If you happen to have a few bruised pears at the bottom of your fruit bowl, this is a great way to rescue them! If you don’t have hazelnuts, almonds work just as well. I store all my nuts in the freezer to keep them from becoming rancid.
Zucchini Bread/Cake
By the time August rolled around, Granny always had plenty of shiny, dark green zucchini in her garden, even after giving basketfuls away to neighbors and to her local church. A hunk of fresh zucchini bread resting on our counter next to Granny’s coffee pot that hooted like an owl as it brewed didn’t last long when neighbors came to call.

Blinis are little pancakes that are usually topped with caviar. My blinis are thinly like crepes and I like to serve them rolled with blueberry sauce or fresh chives and sour cream.
