Rugelach

This classic cookie makes a festive Hanukkah treat or a sweet gift. It’s more than just a cookie, it has an extra dose of antioxidants from the prunes and chocolate. The wheat germ adds fiber to the flaky topping.

Corn Chowder

Corn makes a sweet and satisfying soup. The potatoes help to thicken the broth without adding any fat. Top it off with low-fat cream cheese to give this soup it’s sinful texture that is so rich and thick, they won’t believe it’s not made with heavy cream. Use the flour for a thick heavy soup or skip it if you want a lighter texture.

Cherry Chocolate Chip Cookies

These treats made with whole grain flour have a nutty, rich taste that people expect from a home-baked cookie. It’s fun to incorporate healthy whole grain flour into your favorite traditional recipes. I added dried cherries for a twist, but these cookies are just as good as a classic chocolate chip

Tomato Salad with Goat Cheese and Roasted Pepper

Need your vitamin C? Look no further, between fresh tomatoes and red bell pepper you’re getting a huge helping of vitamin C with a this sweet and savory salad. Fresh goat cheese adds a note of creaminess without too much fat.

Orange Spiced Tea

During cold winter evenings, my granny would gather a knitted blanket onto to her lap and sip her favorite tea. The odor of orange punctutated by the dark musk of cloves would fill our small living room as she siped, slowly turning the pages of her latest travel book. My version of her favorite tea has cinnamon for added spice and flavor.

Spinach is a nutritional powerhouse. High levels of vitamin K, A, C, B2, along with manganese, folate, and iron – all available in just one cup! This simple preparation is the fastest way to load up on nutrients at lunch or meal-time.

Granny’s Texas Sheet Cake

My roommate in college, Christina, used to beg me to make Texas Sheet Cake. Granny used to make it for us on the Fourth of July but my healthier version is delish year-round!

Cherry Almond Muffins

If fresh cherries are out of your budget or out of season, the frozen version will work just as well! Cherries are a good source of antioxidants and they plump nicely when baked in muffins.
