Best Tasting Superfoods for Juicing

Looking to juice your way to the new you this year? When you juice with superfoods, it’s the ultimate way to give yourself a burst of nutrition and recharge your body any time you need an energy boost.

Did you know that your liver is the store house for vitamins, and that it uses these nutrients to do everything from processing food, giving our cells energy to dealing with toxins and processing alcohol. Juicing once a week can also be a great way to replenish the storehouse and give your liver a helping hand.

Blueberries

Anti-ox Detox Juice: 1/2 cup blueberries, 1/2 cup raspberries, 2 kale leaves, 1/2-inch x 1/2-inch piece fresh ginger root.

Cherries

Cherries contain antioxidants are being studied for their ability to protect the heart, fight diabetes, and calm inflammation and even keep attacks of gout away. Cherries are also rich in anthocyanins which boost fat-fighting enzymes that help oxidize fat in the body. Rich and sweet, cherries paired with kale or spinach can turn a green juice into a sweet treat. Cherries also pair wonderfully with spice and hot chilies.

Apples

Apples are sweet, mild and have high pectic content, great for keeping you full longer! In a study of healthy, middle-aged adults, consumption of one apple a day for four weeks lowered by 40 percent the blood levels of a substance linked to hardening of the arteries.

Green Goddess Juice: Juice 2 cups broccoli florets along with 1 apple, and 1 1-inch piece of ginger

Spinach

Spinach is the ultimate superfood because it contains a wide array of vitamins, minerals and a host of anti-oxidants that are all great for skin — including beta carotene, vitamin C, and omega 3’s. Looking to protect your skin against the elements? Juice spinach with other skin care superfoods like kiwi (rich in vitamin C) and blueberries.

Ginger

Hot, spicy and fragrant, ginger can make any dull green or blue juice sparkle! Ginger contains very potent anti-inflammatory compound called gingerol that has been helpful for people which osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis who consume it regularly. Juice a 1-inch by 1-inch piece of ginger with a ripe juicy pear and a few handful of baby spinach leaves.

Should I Juice Organic?

Sadly, most of our favorite superfoods like cherries, blueberries, spinach and red bell pepper are on the dirty dozen list. By all means go organic if it’s in your budget, if not here are some ideas:

  • Try frozen organic berries and let them defrost before juicing.
  • Peel your red bell pepper with a potato peeler since most pesticides reside in the peel.
