Green Bean Soup with Fresh Dill

My Granny always cooked this wonderful, light soup in early fall after she harvested the last of the green beans from her garden. Garnish it with a dollop of sour cream and another tablespoon of fresh dill for an elegant first course or simple summer dinner. This soup is always more flavorful after it rests a day or two in the fridge.

Sweetheart Cupcakes

Make these cupcakes for your loved ones to help protect their heart. The oat flour helps to control cholesterol and beets have antioxidants to protect arteries. Give them a sweet treat that you can feel good about.

Indian Fried Rice

Hot chilies make you sweat, clear your sinuses, and can help you to burn calories by raising your body temperature. If you can’t take the heat, cut the quantity of chilies by half. But over time, you can develop a tolerance and taste for the magnificent chili!

Pomegranate Margarita

Besides ranking high as an antioxidant, pomegranate is delicious, tart and sweet at the same time. Margaritas are fun for entertaining and a great way to refresh thirsty guests at your next BBQ or picnic.

Papaya Lime Cooler

Papaya is high in vitamin C and a good source of fiber. It’s cool, soothing fruit blends up smooth, ideals for mixed drinks and smoothies.

Kir Royal

Kir is a traditional French aperitif that combines the sweet syrup of currants with dry white wine. This kir is ‘royal’ since it uses champagne. If you can’t find the creme de cassis, any sweet raspberry flavor liquid will work nicely.

Jenn’s Negrone

This might look like a Shirley Temple, but it packs a punch with the gin! If you want to make a lighter version, cut the portion in half and top with club soda.

Gluehwein

Winters in New York City can be unfriendly with frigid winds and sudden snowstorms. I remedy the conditions by making my favorite hot, holiday drink, Glühwein. My friend Sonja gave me this version of classic German recipes – it is a great way to start a party: sweet and warm, it goes down so easily on a cold, icy night.
